Richard's Reflections (July 2025)

Summer time has truly come now. The weather is much warmer (although we still have rain to contend with from time to time!) I must admit I like this time of year. It’s a great excuse for going around with no shoes or socks and generally enjoying the fresh air. ☺️

And many of us go on holiday at this time of the year. It is so important for us to have time to relax, unwind and re-charge the batteries as it were. If you are having some time off, I trust the Lord will bless and refresh you.

However, there are still ways that we can serve the Lord in this season. It was great to be part of the Govilon Fun Day recently. It is important for us as a church to be part of the local community so that we can show the love of Jesus to those who live here. We are planning a monthly Coffee Morning in the Village Hall. Originally we were going to start this in July, but now we will wait until August. We will arrange a meeting for anyone who is interested in helping during the month. Watch out in the WhatsApp Group and listen to the Sunday announcements. We are also planning a Church Barbecue in August and hoping to arrange a short walk along the canal for Messy Church Families.

It is very encouraging that these things are happening - a very big thank you to all who are involved. And it is certainly true that we can serve the Lord whatever time of year it is. As the Apostle Paul says to Timothy:

Be prepared in season and out of season. 2 Timothy 4v2

And so, whatever time of year it is, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, let’s thank God that he is with us and can use us for his glory and the good of others. This theme is taken up in a slightly different way in this hymn, but the sentiment is still the same:

So shall no part of day or night

From sacredness be free;

But all my life, in every step

Be fellowship with Thee.     Horatius Bonar

Enjoy your Summer!

Love in Jesus,     Richard
