The word prayer, and the idea of prayer, are familiar to all of us, but it’s worth pausing to consider how familiar the practice of prayer is in our own lives. Praying is vital for anyone who is a follower of Jesus. There is a lot written in the Bible about prayer, at different times and in different places. Sometimes it is individual prayer, at other times it is with others.
In the book of Acts we are told what the early church did when they met together:
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 4 v 42
Doesn’t that sound similar to what we do when we meet together? The apostles’ teaching is the Word of God, we enjoy fellowship together, we break bread around the Lord’s Table, and we pray.
I want to concentrate on that last item, that of praying. I’ve mentioned how important prayer is to our individual lives. Prayer is also an important part of our worship services. And I believe that it would be good to have some more intentional prayer together as a church. If we really want to see God’s blessing upon us, then we need to come to God in prayer together.
We are going to be exploring ways we can do that - I will be addressing it at the upcoming AGM, and so please come with your ideas as to how we can pray together as a church. One thing that we will be doing is having a Day of Prayer at the beginning of March. I will put more details in the next Newsletter, but for now please put Thursday 5th March in your diary. On that day, the chapel will be open for anyone to come in and spend a period in prayer for as long or as short as you wish anytime between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm.
What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear;
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.

Love in Jesus, Richard
