Richard's Reflections (April 2026)

Easter is the most important time in the year for Christians. Now, you might be wondering why I make that statement. For example, you may think that Christmas is most important. And indeed, Christmas IS very important, because it marks the time when the Lord Jesus Christ humbled himself and was born as a human being. And, I suppose that you could say if Jesus had not been born, he would not go through the events we celebrate at Easter.
Why then, is Easter so vital? Why should it be at the centre of our faith? Because at Easter, we particularly remember that Jesus was put to death on a cross and 3 days later was raised to life. The Apostle Paul tells us that these things are essential. 1 Corinthians 15 v 3 - 4:
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
These things are of first importance because, on the cross Jesus took upon himself all the wrong things we have ever done, so that we can know our sins forgiven, and made right with God: 1 Peter 2 v 24:
He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness.
But the story does not end there. Jesus came back to life again to guarantee that we have life for evermore 1 Peter 1 v 3:
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
A living hope - life for evermore, that goes on after we leave this world. And all of this is because of what we celebrate at Easter time. No wonder it is so important! And it is ours as we put our trust in Jesus.
Thine be the glory, risen conquering Son,
Endless is the victory Thou o'er death hast won! Edmund Louis Budry
A very Happy Easter to you all.
Love in Jesus, Richard
